Huge Truck Wreck on Central Expressway in Plano, Texas Injures Eight

December 14, 2009

A five vehicle wreck today on Highway 75 (Central Expressway) in Plano injured eight people and tied up traffic for hours. According to the Plano Police Department, the wreck started when an 18 wheeler careened into the HOV lane on the southbound side. The tractor trailer first struck a TxDOT truck, and then hit a passenger pickup truck. The pickup then flipped over a box truck and into a Mazda. Also, after the big rig hit the TxDOT truck, it caused the state vehicle to hit the concrete barrier between the Northbound and Southbound HOV lanes, and the barrier was pushed into the Northbound lane. Unfortunately this will cause the HOV lanes to be closed in both directions until the proper repairs can be made.

Of the eight people injured in the truck wreck, three had to transported to local hospitals. I certainly hope their injuries are not serious and that they are able to be released very soon. This accident appears to be yet another caused by the reckless actions of a truck driver. These truck drivers have a duty, like all of us, to drive safely. But when they fail to do so, the consequences are enormous. These trucks can cause incredible damage, both physical property damage (to cars and heavy cement carriers), but also can cause bodily injuries to innocent drivers.
