Driver Killed During Crash In Grand Prairie After Failing To Stop At Stop Sign

A fiery crash in Grand Prairie, Texas claimed the life of a motorist shortly after midnight today. Around 12:45 a.m., a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup was heading east on Grand Prairie Road when it ran a stop sign at Southeast 14th Street, drove off the road and crashed through a fence.

The victim was identified as Frank Hauser, 62, of Fort Worth, according to the Dallas County medical examiner's office. The truck hit a stationary railroad car on Vought Aircraft Industries' property and burst into flames. Witnesses were unable to pull Hauser from the burning truck. He was the only occupant of the pickup. Hauser was taken by ambulance to Methodist Medical Center in Dallas, where he later died.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Hauser and his family. Many things could have caused this accident and hopefully an accident investigation will reveal a cause. Getting behind the wheel of a car is the riskiest thing people do and they do it every single day. All told, car collisions kill more than 40,000 people in the U.S. each year, and they are the number one cause of death. Additionally 61 percent of fatalities from car accidents happen when it is dark outside.

32-Car Pileup Hurts 10 And Slows Traffic On Northbound Highway 360 In Arlington

A pileup on State Highway 360 in Arlington, Texas this morning sent several people to the hospital and shut down the highway. The chain-reaction crash began shortly after 5:30 a.m. when a northbound vehicle slowed down to exit at Division Street. Another vehicle rear-ended that car and spun into traffic, setting off a 32-car pileup.

Ten people were hospitalized in the pileup, which shut down all northbound lanes near Division Street. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening. By 8:30 a.m., all northbound lanes had reopened, though traffic was still backed up for miles on Highway 360. The cause of the crash was under investigation, but rain-slicked roads may have been a factor. Unfortunately when you mix that with some of the vehicle fluids already on the road, it can make for some slick conditions.

Car accidents occur every single day in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Everyone is making the commute to work, dropping kids off at school, or simply running errands. One way to prevent a car collision is to drive a safe distance from the car in front of you. Drivers constantly keep an eye out of what is happening in their rear view mirror and by tail gaiting the driver your chances are much higher of causing a collision.

Two Dead After Pickup Strikes Semi In Johnson County

When accidents involving an 18 wheeler occur in Texas the outcome is usually not good. Last night two people were killed after the pickup truck they were riding in struck the back of a big rig in rural Johnson County Sunday night.

The crash happened sometime between 10:30 and 11 p.m. about 10 miles north of Cleburne at the intersection of county roads 904 and 1017 when a Ford pickup traveling east struck the back of a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer that was backing up into a private drive.

Rusty Talamantes, 26, of Alvarado, and an unidentified passenger in the Ford pickup were killed. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer's driver was uninjured.
The Ford pickup ended up underneath the trailer with the top of the truck ripped off. According to DPS investigators, no charges will be filed against the tractor-trailer's driver at this time.

Truck accidents occur every day in Texas. In 2007 there were 455 tractor-trailers involved in fatal accidents in Texas resulting in 4,808 fatalities. Additionally nearly 20% of 18-wheeler accidents involved the truck being rear-ended; cars unable to stop or otherwise hitting the back of the semi. My thoughts and prayers go out to Talamante’s and the unidentified passengers families.

Wrong-way Crash In Downtown Dallas Kills 1, Injures 2, Including Drunken Driving Suspect

I can’t believe we have now have another wrong way driver incident. And it is also another drunk driving case. There seems to be an epidemic of these cases lately.

A drunken driving suspect traveling the wrong way on Interstate 35E caused a head-on collision that killed his passenger and snarled downtown traffic this morning. The crash happened about 4:45 a.m. when a southbound sedan trying to get onto Interstate 30 slammed into a northbound car and then collided with a third vehicle near the Houston Street viaduct. Both the wrong-way driver and his passenger were transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where the passenger died. The driver is currently in critical condition.

A woman in one of the other cars was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center in stable condition. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured. None of the victims were identified. Alcohol may have played a role in the crash and that the driver of the wrong-way vehicle could face intoxication manslaughter charges.

Sixty one percent of wrong way drivers who caused a car crash were under the influence of alcohol. Additionally 79 percent of drunk driving accidents happen in between the hours of one and five in the morning. Unfortunately, the Dallas and Fort Worth area has recently had many accidents from wrong-way drivers around these hours. I hope that justice is served on this drunk driver. Some possible penalties for intoxication manslaughter are:

• Jail time of up to 20 years
• Fines of up to $10,000
• Probation and random alcohol testing
• Interlock device on vehicle
• Alcohol classes
• Community service hours typically starting at a minimum of 200
• Revocation or suspension of drivers license

Intoxicated Woman In Dallas Crashes And Injures Four Innocent Children

A drunken driving suspect was arrested Sunday evening after she crashed into a concrete pillar Sunday evening in South Dallas, injuring four children in the vehicle. Shirley Ann Alfaro, 27, of Dallas was being held in the Dallas County Jail on four counts of intoxication assault. She also lacked a driver's license. Her bail has not been set. The crash happened around 6 p.m. as the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban sped north on César Chávez Boulevard near Grand Avenue. There were five children, ages 3 to 11, in the back of the SUV and a man in the front passenger seat. It's unclear still how the children were related to the suspect.

Four of the children were taken to Children's Medical Center Dallas; two were in critical condition and two were in serious condition Sunday night. The fifth child, age 3, wasn't hurt. The woman's 33-year-old boyfriend was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

I hope these innocent children are able to heal quickly 100 percent. This is the second wreck within a week that an irresponsible adult was driving and injured children in Dallas. Here is some advice I have if anyone is unclear about drinking and driving. DON’T DO IT! There are more than 12,000 fatalities annually due to drunk driving, and many more accidents and injuries. Additionally 50 percent of accidents that happen during the weekend are alcohol related. If you are going to drink, please do not drive.

Two Wise County Teenagers Killed In Chain-Reaction Car Accident West Of Denton

Samantha Rogers, 17, and Delaney Mancil, 15, both of Alvord, were killed when their 2007 Pontiac G5 was struck by a GMC 7500 pickup in a chain reaction crash shortly after 7 p.m. just east of Nail Road, last night. The two Wise County teenagers were one of four automobiles involved in the collision. Both teens died at the scene. Drivers of the other three vehicles were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The chain of collisions started when the driver of an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup crossed the center line on Highway 380, striking the oncoming GMC pickup. The westbound GMC then crossed into the eastbound lane, sideswiped a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis and struck the Pontiac that Rogers was driving. Investigators don’t know what caused the Dodge pickup to cross the center lane and no charges have been filed.

My heart and prayers go out to the friends and families of these young girls. I can’t even imagine the pain they must feel. Hopefully, an investigation will reveal the cause of accident. Statistics show that concrete barriers in between highways save lives. I think it’s time for a median or concrete barrier along this stretch of highway to prevent accidents like this in the future.

Wrong-Way Driver Causes Head On Collision: Around I-30 In Mesquite

Two people were hospitalized after a wrong-way crash early yesterday morning on Interstate 30 in Mesquite, TX. The accident happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. near Big Town Boulevard and shut down westbound lanes of I-30 for hours while authorities cleared the scene. Before the crash, an officer spotted the woman after she entered westbound I-30 near Second Avenue in downtown Dallas and tried to get her to pull over. Felicia Janis, 51, continued driving east in her black Ford F-150 and hit a Nissan Frontier head-on near the interchange with U.S. Highway 80. Her vehicle burst into flames.

A sheriff's deputy pulled the other driver from his pickup and tried to extinguish the fire. Janis, too, was pulled to safety from her burning pickup. Both were taken to Baylor University Medical Center with injuries that didn't appear to be life-threatening. Investigators are awaiting results from a blood test to determine whether alcohol played a role, said Kim Leach, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County Sheriff's Department.

Every day in Texas there’s auto accidents and they are all caused from different circumstances. An interesting statistic I found is that 61 percent of wrong way drivers who caused a car crash were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Unfortunately, the Dallas and Fort Worth area has recently had many accidents from wrong-way drivers around the time the bars close. I am glad that everyone involved in this crash seems to be okay because typically head on collisions have fatal outcomes.

Hiring The Right Board Certified Attorney in Fort Worth, Texas

Everyday there are numerous car accidents in Fort Worth. Chances are you are reading this because you yourself are the victim of a vehicle wreck and you are taking the first step of looking for a reputable lawyer in Fort Worth. There are a few points one needs to consider before their case is turned over to an attorney.

Look for a specialist. This is very important because you do not want to get a lawyer who thinks he knows everything about every law. If you were attacked by a dog would you hire a divorce attorney? No, that is ludicrous; you would hire a personal injury lawyer. Look for the right lawyer for your case.

Look for a Board Certified Lawyer. What is a Board Certified Lawyer? It is an attorney who has meet rigorous, objective standards and has demonstrated knowledge in a specialized field. In Texas there are over 80,000 lawyers and about two percent of those are Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law.

Look for an attorney that you are comfortable with. I like to talk with my clients and make sure they are comfortable with me and I am comfortable with them. Typically you only have one shot at hiring an attorney. I challenge you to do your homework, simply reading billboards or looking at yellow pages does not give you the information about the lawyer that will be representing you.
