Semi-Truck Accident In Dallas Kills 20 Year Olld & Injures 3 Others

A woman was killed and three other people, including a 3-year-old boy, were hurt this morning when their SUV struck a tractor-trailer on Central Expressway. The crash, which shut down northbound Central, happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. near Loop 12 when the sport utility vehicle crashed into the semi as it tried to make a U-turn.

All four people in the SUV — two 20-year-old women, a 17-year-old girl and the boy — were taken to area hospitals. The 20-year-old passenger, Nakenya White of Dallas, died from her injuries. The conditions of the other people were unknown. The truck driver was unhurt. The crash briefly shut down all northbound lanes, while crews cleaned up diesel fuel from the semi. A single lane has since opened.

I hate seeing that collisions involving 18-wheelers, typical do not have good outcomes. It is not known if the SUV tried to make a quick pass, or if its driver just did not see the truck, but no matter the case my hearts and prayers go out to all the family and friends that will be affected by this tragedy. In Texas alone, there were 4,707 deaths caused by 18-wheelers in Texas. Additionally, 63% of fatal tractor-trailer wrecks were from front-end-collisions; either trucks unable to stop, or head on injuries with other trucks.
