Driver Inattention Claims the Life of a Burleson Baby Boy

In Texas, most people over the age of 18 probably get behind the wheel of a car every day and over time, driving to and from places feels like second nature. If you’ve driven a number of years in Dallas or Fort Worth and haven’t gotten into an accident, you may take more risks while driving like talking or texting on your cell phone, eating, putting on makeup or messing with your iPod. As a personal injury lawyer in Fort Worth, I know that no matter how many years you’ve been driving in Texas, failing to give your full attention to the road can be deadly for yourself and the other drivers around you.

Just last week, a Burleson car accident caused by driver inattention killed a newborn baby boy. Kayla Roberts of Cleburne was driving along FM 1902 in Burleson when Daniel McWhorter crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with Roberts’ truck. Roberts’ was air lifted to a hospital in Fort Worth where she delivered her baby, Adam Roberts. The baby was pronounced dead the next day.

This accident is truly upsetting because it has affected the lives of such young people -not only the baby boy, but also 18-year-old Daniel, who caused the accident. Police said alcohol, drugs or cell phones weren’t the cause of the accident, just a driver not paying attention. Now Daniel must live with this on his conscious for the rest of his life.

If we’re being honest, I’m sure everyone can admit that they’ve been a distracted driver at some time or another in their life. But when I read about accidents like this, it reminds me that my full attention always needs to be on the road. Preventing distracted driving is a cause me and my personal injury law firm are very serious about. We especially want to stop young distracted drivers the most, so we’ve created a program called Teens Against Distracted Driving. Too many young people have been taken from this world in distracted driving car accidents. These car wrecks don’t have to happen – take our pledge to become a safer driver.

I noticed you didn't point out how this affected my husband and I.
Because that kid wasn't paying attention, my husband and I not only lost our first-born son, our only child; I can never get pregnant again.
Because he was "inattentive," which is something we have no control over, our lives have been turned upside down.
We did nothing to deserve this; and we have to live with it the rest of our lives.
Eventually, he'll have kids and there will be days where it's in the back of his mind, not bothering him at all.
We'll have to think about it every holiday, every July 6th (when I wrecked), every July 7th (when he died), every July 29th (when he was due).
We have to think about it all the time.
People really should pay attention to what they're doing hen they're driving; it's not just going to affect you when you do something stupid.
And it's not always just "I hit somebody and messed up their car."
In this case it's "I hit somebody and I ruined her life, her husband's life, and their no-longer-growing family."
