Fifty Cars and Trucks Collide in Massive Texas Pile-Up
As a Dallas-Fort Worth personal injury lawyer, I have helped thousands of auto accident victims throughout Texas since 1991. Car crashes are nearly always caused by a negligent driver. Sometimes the at-fault motorist was texting while driving, sometimes they were speeding, other times they were negligent because they following the vehicle in front far too closely. Early speculation assumed that last explanation was the initial trigger which led to a massive pile-up in Southeast Texas this morning.
It is estimated that more than 50 vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction wreck which occurred at approximately 5.30 am on Highway 73 near Port Arthur. Initial reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said that more than 40 people were being treated following the collision, with injuries including broken bones, abrasions and trauma. Two individuals were rushed to hospital with critical injuries and one man suffered a heart attack.

The poor weather conditions around Port Arthur are being partly blamed for the accident as visibility was significantly compromised due to a combination of early morning fog and smoke from nearby wildfires. These conditions recalling the 34 vehicle wreck in England two months ago which killed seven people and injured 51 other. Fortunately, it does not appear that anybody was fatally wounded in today’s crash.
While it may be another couple of days before more concrete details of this morning’s tragedy come to light, I would encourage all those involved to seek legal advice from a board certified personal injury attorney as full as possible. Once fault is determined, you may be entitled to recover compensation from the insurance company to cover your property damage, medical expenses and other costs related to the accident.
